Not many high school sophomores are elected to a national office, but not many students are David Arowolo, either.
The Baltimore County Public Schools sophomore has been elected the 2025-26 National Student Council president. The National Association of Student Councils (NASC) announced his election on May 5, 2025.
Arowolo attends Eastern Technical High School, and in addition to his role as National Student council president, he studies interactive media and production. He also serves as a National Youth Council Member of UNICEF USA, is treasurer of the Maryland Association of Student Councils, and digital media specialist for Baltimore County Student Councils.
Adding to his impressive educational and service resumรฉ, last month he finished a term as a Student Advisory Team member for PBS News Student Reporting Labs. Last summer, Arowolo was a delegate at the ACLU National Advocacy Institute in Washington, D.C.
Arowolo has been involved in leadership activities since he was in 5th grade, when he ran for his elementary schoolโs student council. That interest has never waned. He served in multiple roles in Baltimore County Junior Council, Baltimore County Student Councils, and the Maryland Association of Student Councils.
โI am incredibly proud of David for being elected as the National Student Council president,โ said Stacey Wade, regional advisor of Baltimore County Student Councils. โWatching him grow through our middle and high school executive board has been inspiring.โ
Remarking on Arowoloโs perspective and impact, Wade praised both his inner growth and outward focus.
โHe has continually invested in his own leadership development and has become a powerful example of what it means to lead with purpose,โ Wade said. โDavid is a bright light in our council as a student workshop coordinator โ uplifting others, encouraging students to pursue their own potential, and championing involvement in student advocacy. His passion and dedication have made a lasting impact on our BCPS community.โ
Arowolo is excited to take on this next role and has lofty, yet concrete goals.
โMy vision for NASC is bold,โ Arowolo wrote. โMy plan includes expanding leadership resources by developing and distributing five new toolkits, presentation templates, and guides to support student councils nationwide. To increase student engagement, my plan includes hosting at least three virtual town halls, ensuring student voices are heard, and working with NASC leadership to create a student council advocacy guide, helping councils secure funding and representation.โ
