Maryland’s elections board is calling on registered voters and students to sign up to serve as election judges and Election Day pages for the 2026 general election in November.

These roles help ensure Maryland runs a free and fair election at polling locations throughout the state.

“With the general election around the corner, I ask Marylanders to show up and serve as an Election Judge or Election Day Page,” said Jared DeMarinis, state administrator of the Maryland State Board of Elections. “Without the nearly 26,000 election judges serving, we would not be able to stage the election. Being an Election Judge or Page is an integral, vital and necessary part for ensuring our elections are verified, secure and transparent.”

Marylanders can earn money starting at $250 per day that they serve as an election judge. Those who have previous served as judges will receive an additional $100 as a one-time bonus payment.

State of Maryland and county government employees can earn administrative leave for being an election judge. These workers should check with their employer for any added benefits of serving as an election judge.

To be eligible to serve as an election judge, Marylanders must be age 16 or older. No prior experience is needed, and training is provided.

Applicants can use the state elections board’s online form or contact their local elections board.

If you are a student who isn’t old enough to serve as an election judge, fear not. Marylanders age 14 or 15 can serve as Election Day pages, who will help voters on Election Day under the direction of Chief Election Judges.

Students serving as pages can even earn service-learning credit hours for school. Those interested in applying can use the online form or contact their local elections board.

“It is never too soon to apply to serve as an Election Judge or Election Day Page,” DeMarinis said. “Serving as an Election Judge is your chance to help fellow Marylanders exercise their right to vote and shape Maryland’s future. For younger Marylanders, serving as an Election Day Page lets you play an active role in understanding how democracy works while earning school service credit.
