Darius Johnson is in a difficult โbut enviousโposition. The senior at Poly has received acceptance letters from 15 schools so far, including six Ivies. โWhen I was applying for college, I didnโt really think I would have all of these choices to make. I sort of just thought it would be two places would accept me and I would have to choose which one is the cheapest. But now, I have all of these options,โ Johnson told WJZ. Oh yeah: Heโs also the first in his family to attend college.
Johnson is a prime example of how innovative education programs in Baltimore can help students. Johnson participates in the Ingenuity Project, a nonprofit organization that encourages gifted students in Baltimore City schools to take high-level science and math courses. Johnson has also gotten to work on HIV research projects through programs at Johns Hopkins.
At this point, Johnson isnโt sure where heโll end up. Harvard sounds good, he thinksโbut his top choice, Yale, put him on the waitlist. Itโs a tough choice, but we have a feeling heโll be fine either way.

Congratulations to him!!! Good to see a positive story about a young black male!!!
