Darius Johnson is in a difficult โ€“but enviousโ€“position. The senior at Poly has received acceptance letters from 15 schools so far, including six Ivies. โ€œWhen I was applying for college, I didnโ€™t really think I would have all of these choices to make.  I sort of just thought it would be two places would accept me and I would have to choose which one is the cheapest. But now, I have all of these options,โ€ Johnson told WJZ. Oh yeah: Heโ€™s also the first in his family to attend college.

Johnson is a prime example of how innovative education programs in Baltimore can help students. Johnson participates in the Ingenuity Project, a nonprofit organization that encourages gifted students in Baltimore City schools to take high-level science and math courses. Johnson has also gotten to work on HIV research projects through programs at Johns Hopkins.

At this point, Johnson isnโ€™t sure where heโ€™ll end up. Harvard sounds good, he thinksโ€“but his top choice, Yale, put him on the waitlist. Itโ€™s a tough choice, but we have a feeling heโ€™ll be fine either way.
