Everyone knows that if you leave your portable GPS in plain sight in Baltimore, your car window will get smashed and your GPS will get stolen. But it seems that car thieves have added a new target in mind: airbags.

Yes, people are actually smashing driverโ€™s side windows to remove the airbag from the steering wheel. According to WBAL, theyโ€™re worth between $700 and $900 each. So far this year, Baltimore County police have received 37 reports of stolen airbags, most of them from one neighborhood along Timonium Road. Apparently Hondas, Nissans, and Acuras are being targeted. A similar rash of thefts happened in Hartford County back in February.

The biggest bummer about the whole thing? If your airbag gets stolen, youโ€™ve got to buy a new oneโ€“and you canโ€™t really get them used. For one,  used airbag was probably stolen from someone just like you; for another, you canโ€™t be sure that an after-market airbag will work properly. And you really want your airbag to work.
