Francis Scott Key watches the American flag rise over Fort McHenry. The United States Army held the fort after a 25-hour seige and saved Baltimore from the British. Key was inspired to write a poem that later became “The Star-Spangled Banner,” America’s national anthem. (Picture courtesy of the National Parks Service)
