Johns Hopkins is on a multi-year quest to become one of the top 10 universities in the country. According to the most recent US News ranking, they’ve almost made it, coming in at number 12. (Prepare to go down, Cal Tech and Dartmouth!) But do you know what else sounds pretty good? Being the 14th best university… in the world. And if you filter out the UK schools also in the top spots, this makes Hopkins the 9th best school in the United States!
Every year, the QS World University Rankings claim to compare apples and oranges–that is schools from across the globe, with very different cultures and educational systems. The QS rankings evaluate schools mostly based on their reputation and research capabilities. No wonder, then, that Johns Hopkins always puts in a good showing. Here’s the rest of the top ranked schools:
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
= University of Cambridge
= Imperial College London
Harvard University
= University of Oxford
= UCL (University College London)
Stanford University
California Institute of Technology (Caltech)
Princeton University
Yale University
University of Chicago
ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology)
University of Pennsylvania
= Columbia University
= Johns Hopkins University
In case you’re curious, the schools that make it into the US News top 14 but not onto the QS list include Stanford, the University of Chicago, Duke, and Dartmouth.
