University of Maryland’s football team had to learn the hard way that sometimes it’s not whether you win or lose; it’s whether you shake your opponents’ hands. Before Saturday’s game, team captain Stefon Diggs and two other Terps declined to shake hands with captains of the opposing Penn State. The Big Ten called the (non)action “exceptionally regrettable,” fined the school $10,000, and hit Diggs with a one-game suspension.
Both Diggs and head coach Randy Edsall issued apologies. Edsall said the team has “learned from this experience and will take the necessary steps to make sure this does not happen again.” The necessary steps? What does that even mean for a thing like shaking hands?

Kind of an embarrassing moment for the Terps. Ugh.
