Consider it a state-wide 5.66 percent off sale. From August 12 to August 18, the state will take a break from collecting its 6 percent sales tax on all clothing and footwear. Well, except for handbags, watches, handkerchiefs, umbrellas, scarves, ties, headbands, belt buckles, backpacks, protective clothing and footwear, aprons, baby bibs, scuba gear, wigs, and anything over $100.
My personal goal for this yearโs tax-free week is to save $100 in sales tax! So that means Iโve got to buyโฆ let me see hereโฆ $1,667 worth of non-exempt items, each under $100. Hmmโฆ thatโs kind of a lot.
Letโs say instead that my goal is to save $50. Allright, thatโll still feel pretty good. You can still get a pretty decked-out cheeseburger most places for that kind of money. Okay, so now I only have to spendโฆ just have to recalculate hereโฆ $833.50. Honestly, thatโs still more than I should be spending.
You know what, I need a new pair of shoes, so Iโll just buy the shoes and whatever tax savings I get, Iโll call it a win and thatโll be that. Actually, I was going to buy those online, out of state. Those purchases are already exempt from sales tax. Oh well. Everybody else, stay psyched! Get shopping for non-protective, non-work-related clothing and footwear of $100 or less!
