The former Baltimore City transportation official who oversaw the Charm City Circulator and Water Taxi is taking a trip to prison, a federal judge ruled on Tuesday.
Barry S. Robinson will serve a year and a day in prison after taking $90,000 in bribes while in office.
Robinson, the former head of the city’s division of Marine and Transit Services, took $70,000 in exchange for selling city bus shelters at a discounted price, federal prosecutors allege. He also accepted bribes to the tune of $20,000 to cancel debt owed the city by a company that advertised on the Circulator.
He used some of the money to buy new TVs, and get new carpeting and a range hood in his home.
“This sort of corruption can occur when dishonest people are trusted to handle valuable government property,” U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein said in a statement.
