There are school-wide and city-wide reading campaigns, where an entire group of people bands together to read the same book at the same time. So why not a public transit book club?
That was the brilliant idea floated earlier this week on Reddit by bmorebiker, a Baltimorean who is about to start commuting to DC via MARC train. Wouldnโt it be cool to read the same novel as a bunch of your fellow train commuters? Itโd certainly make transitory small talk much more interesting and illuminating than conversation about the weather, or how dismal the Ravens are this year.
So far the suggested book is Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenidesโwhich is an awesome pick. So if you commute by MARC and havenโt read it yet, why not pick up a copy and start conspicuously reading it on the train? Who knows what literary friendships may ensueโฆ

Agreed – great idea!!
