What: A house advertised as โQuite Possibly Baltimoreโs Most Recognized, Award-Winning Home.โ So, if youโre in the know, no need to read further. If not, itโs a stunning house, a contemporary of the recent Michael Phelps purchase on Curley Street, but with a modern exterior and more glass. Owned and designed by Jill and Eric Bloodworth, who in 2006 totally renovated the 1910 shell of a commercial bakery.
The sensibility is California via Tribecca, with white walls, industrial railings, wide floorboards of pale maple, an overhead waterfall in the bath, and sliding interior doors. Only 16 feet deep, the house nevertheless feels wide open. Itโs 140 feet long, with over 100 windows and soaring ceilings. Interestingly, the right side of the house is designed as private space โ bedrooms, baths, playroom and soundproofed music studio. The left is public space โ kitchen, family room downstairs and sleek, glassed in entertainment room with fireplace and balcony upstairs. From here, the night time panorama of Baltimore is jaw-dropping. The master suite, awarded Metropolian Homes Most Innovative Design a few years ago, is extremely simple and very beautiful. Sono system, zoned heat, central a/c.
Where: The corner of Foster Avenue and South Bouldin Street in Canton. Itโs less than a mile to the big Safeway on Boston Street, and about the same over to Canton Square, the dog park and the waterfront. Patterson Park is just a few blocks away, Matthews Pizzaโs nearby and your local pub is the Annabel Lee.
Would Suit: Actor. House feels like a stage โ in a good way.
Why: Floating fireplace between master bathroom and bath makes both rooms sexy and cozy at the same time.
Why Not: Walking over the glass catwalk is a little nerve wracking.
NB: Video intercom on all three floors means no frantic running down the stairs to answer door.
Hot House is sponsored by Towson-based commercial and residential settlement agent, American Land Title Corporation.
