Imagine playing the first two holes of a round of mini-golf at Penn Station, then hiking up past the Metro Gallery for another couple, then to the Ynot Lot, and finally to the park at St. Paul Street and Lafayette Avenue with the “We the People” mural.
If you can’t, don’t worry. Station North Arts & Entertainment, Inc. can see it all perfectly, according to Baltimore magazine.
In the interest of creating an attraction in Station North that didn’t involve adults drinking alcohol and/or taking in an art film, the company will be teaming up with Maryland Institute College of Art to design and install an eight-hole putt-putt course in the entertainment district. Last month, the groups received a $35,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to complete the project.
Students from the Baltimore Lab School, the Baltimore Design School, and the Baltimore Montessori School will be called on to design the course and serve as “fabrication assistants.”
A BBJ article from May reported that the course, which is expected to go up in April 2017, will be around “for a limited, undetermined period of time.” However, a more recent article in Baltimore, described the prospective putt-putt holes as “somewhat portable” to facilitate their offsite storage during the winter. So let’s hope the time won’t be all that limited.
