During the 2012 election, Mitt Romney introduced voters to the concept of self-deportation. This year, the GOP presidential nominee is once again rolling out ideas of self-imposed punishment.
During a speech on Wednesday, Donald Trump took some time out from encouraging Russian hackers to steal Hillary Clintonโs e-mails to field a question about Baltimore.
Asked about Baltimore City Stateโs Attorney Marilyn Mosbyโs decision to end her prosecution of Baltimore police in the Freddie Gray case, Trump said Mosby should โprosecute herself,โ according to Business Insider.
Trump called Mosbyโs initial decision to charge the officers โdisgraceful.โ Given this view, itโs perhaps predictable that he would support the police officers who were charged. But what stood out to self-described master negotiator most was their ability to somehow resist dealing.
โAnd I give a lot of credit to those police officers, who probably couldโve made a deal,โ Trump said. โI give a lot of respect and a lot of credit that they stuck it out.โ
Mosby quoted First Lady Michelle Obamaโs speech at the Democratic National Convention in response:
