Organizers have cancelled this year’s Baltimore County Farmers Market at the Maryland State Fairgrounds, citing lack of vendor interest.

The farmers market was scheduled to take place every Wednesday from June through October at the Timonium fairgrounds.

But Market Manager Bill Langlotz and his team announced Thursday afternoon that the 2025 market will not be held after all.

“We are sorry to announce, after careful consideration with our current vendors and staff and due to declining vendor interest, that the 2025 Baltimore County Farmers Market at the Maryland State Fairgrounds has been cancelled. We appreciate the great community support over the past 14 years and regret any inconvenience that this may cause,” Langlotz and his team wrote in a statement.

They added, “We hope that you will continue to support the numerous other farmers and markets around the state.”

Organizers have not yet determined whether the farmers market will return in 2026 and beyond, said Edie M. Bernier, publicity director for the Maryland State Fair & Agricultural Society, Inc.

“Our Market Manager and team reached out to a lot of potential farmer/producer vendors for this year,” Bernier said. “Several said that they would like to be a part our market, however they are already at other farmers markets and don’t have enough staff to cover another farmers market in addition to handling the work on their farms. That’s understandable.”

  1. Was it oversaturation that took them down. Normally the farmers market draws people in to buy fresh local produce and other crafted goods in hopes that the event will bring customers to spend additional revenue with the shops located close by or within walking distance. In this case close by would be within the State Fairgrounds. The individual or individuals sponsoring the event must have some sort of overhead to hold this 14,year old event Has the cost gone too high for these individuals along with the venders? Was anybody breaking even, or even making money doing this. After all is said & done, is this really about the Benjamin or is it really just a midweek break? You say 14 years? Honestly, neither my wife or I knew what or where the Baltimore County Farmers Market was being held. We live in Towson and I don’t recall ever seeing a Facebook post, or receiving an email about this. Who was in charge of the marketing?
    Honestly, I just don’t know.

  2. It wasn’t shut down because lack of interest from the farmers and consumers? It was shut down because the farmers have no one to pick their crops, because of trump and him getting with of the worker permits to cross over from Mexico and other countries to work? That is why I believe the event was cancelled?

  3. I went to this farmers market last season and it was absolutely buns. One meat vendor, a vendor selling desserts and sweets, and MAYBE one produce vendor with a very limited selection. One of the stands was clearly run by the owners child, so its clear that they were stretched thin.

The hours were very much in the middle of the workday. Only 2 people were there besides me. I luckily WFH so I could check it out, but if I worked in an office I’d never come by.

I got some meat and went to the grocery store because I couldn’t get what I needed. Never went back. A farmers market with 3 vendors isn’t a market. And desserts aren’t groceries lol.

This probably failed due to its weird hours which caused lack of consumer interest, which then discourages the vendors. Blaming it on the vendors alone is disingenuous.

  4. I live within walking distance of the fairgrounds and would have attended regularly except for the completely unreasonable scheduling. Who goes to a farmer’s market at 10 am on Wednesday?
