Ann’s Dari-Creme, a beloved roadside fixture known for dishing out deep-fried footlong hot dogs and soft serve ice cream, celebrated 75 years in business on Aug. 31.
A line stretched out the door from the moment the Ritchie Highway shop opened until it closed for the day. By 7 p.m., staff had served 687 footlongs, about double their usual amount, one worker told Baltimore Fishbowl.
For many, Ann’s delivers a taste of nostalgia and reminds patrons of their childhood. Several customers waiting in line grew up in the area going to Ann’s and the consistency is what keeps them coming back.
“The only thing that’s changed is the menu prices. Besides that, everything is exactly like it was when I was a kid. They even use the same mustard,” said Rodney, a lifelong Glen Burnie resident.
Many customers expressed their concern when Marley Station Mall was built in the 80s. Developers wanted to build on Ann’s Dari-Creme property, but the shop’s former owners Howard and Thea Pinksey put up a fight and Ann’s has remained untouched.
As night fell, customers continued to line up for their 75-cent ice cream cones. Parents who grew up visiting Ann’s are now sharing the tradition with the next generation, proving that, even after 75 years, Ann’s Dari-Crème shows no signs of slowing down.
