Associated Black Charities (ABC) is thrilled to announce its annual Gala, “Let’s Stay Together,” taking place on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at The Hall! at Live Casino. This year’s gala, centered on the theme of unity and community, stands as ABC’s most significant fundraising event, supporting vital initiatives including but not limited to ABC Academy, Board Pipeline Leadership Development Training Program, Equity In Action Conference, and organization’s strong equity training work.
The event will shine a spotlight on five exemplary Baltimore organizations dedicated to advancing racial equity and justice for Black communities:
ACLU Maryland: Empowering Marylanders to exercise their rights, ensuring the law upholds their humanity.
NAACP – Baltimore City Branch: Fighting for political, social, and economic equality to eliminate race-based discrimination and promote the wellbeing of all individuals.
Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle: A grassroots think tank championing public policy interests for Black people in Baltimore through youth leadership development and political advocacy.
Greater Baltimore Urban League: Assisting disadvantaged Marylanders in accessing equal opportunities in employment, education, healthcare, housing, and civic engagement.
Collctivly: A community resource dedicated to finding, funding, and partnering with Black social change organizations in Greater Baltimore.
Chrissy M. Thornton has, since transitioning in as ABC’s new Present and CEO, emphasized the power of collaboration in driving change. Heading into the 2024 ABC Gala, she underscores the significance of unity in achieving racial equity: “Our strength lies in our collective efforts. By honoring these outstanding organizations, we recognize the power of our alignment and the profound impact we can make together. It is important for ABC to highlight their great work, because our success is interconnected.”
The gala will feature a headlining performance by Maysa, a two-time Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist known for her work with Stevie Wonder. Guests will also enjoy performances by saxophonist Ashley Keiko, DJ Tanz, pianist Chester Burke, and performer Bryan Jeffrey. The evening’s festivities will be emceed by Persia Nicole from Radio One’s 92Q Jams.
