Forty-four of Baltimore County Public Schools’ best jazz musicians and vocalists will perform at the All-County Jazz Concert on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m., representing 12 high schools from the county.

The All-County Jazz Chorus and the All-County Jazz Band will be led by two established and celebrated music educators. Anthony Townes, director of bands for a high school in Prince George’s County, will be guest conductor for the instrumental jazz students. Heidi Ackerman, musical director of the Frederick Chorale and founder and director of Charm City Sings, will be guest conductor for the vocal jazz students.

Students selected for the Jazz Band and Jazz Chorus represent 12 high schools: Catonsville, Dulaney, George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology, Kenwood, New Town, Overlea, Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts, Perry Hall, Pikesville, Towson, Western School of Technology, and Woodlawn.

To participate in All-County music programs, students must be nominated by a teacher, enrolled in a performing ensemble or music course at their middle or high school, and submit an audition video. They must also agree to a rigorous out-of-school rehearsal and concert schedule. Their commitment to the individual and cooperative musical learning required is what sets the All-County students apart.

The All-County Jazz Concert is free and open to the public, and no tickets are needed. It will take place at New Town High School, located at 4931 New Town Blvd. in Owings Mills.
