It’s a busy weekend for Baltimore! Several big events are converging, including the 25th Maryland Film Festival, the Baltimore Flower Mart, and AVAM’s Kinetic Sculpture Race.
There are also some fun musical performances to enjoy.

Maryland Film Festival, Thursday, May 2, through Sunday, May 5, SNF Parkway Theatre. Check out works from local and international filmmakers at the 25th Maryland Film Festival. Read more about it in this Baltimore Fishbowl article.
Cindy of Arc, Thursday, May 2, through, Saturday, May 4, Baltimore Theatre Project. A 2023 finalist for the Richard Rodgers Award for Musical Theater, “Cindy of Arc” is coming to Baltimore. The Theatre Project will present this comedy, written and performed by Cynthia Kaplan.
Asia North 2024 Opening, Friday, May 3, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., 16 W. North Ave. and Motor House. The Sixth Annual Asia North Exhibition and Festival opens on Friday and runs through June 1 in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. The monthlong event kicks off with the opening of this year’s visual exhibition, “Love Letters to Baltimore and the DMV.” Read more in this Baltimore Fishbowl article.
London Film Music Orchestra, Friday, May 3, 7 p.m., Hippodrome Theatre. Dive into the soundtracks of some of your favorite films as the London Film Music Orchestra performs selections from “Jurassic Park,” “Star Wars,” “Indiana Jones,” and more.
Flower Mart, Friday, May 3, through Saturday, May 4, Mount Vernon Place. Mount Vernon will be in full bloom with a variety of flower and plant vendors — and, of course, lemon sticks.
Kinetic Sculpture Race, Saturday, May 4, race starts 10 a.m. (safety check & brake test at 8 a.m.), Covington Street. The American Visionary Art Museum will host their Kinetic Sculpture Race, with this year’s theme being “Monuments and Masterpieces.” Racers will traverse streets, water, sand and mud. IMET Open House, Saturday, May 4, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology, Colwell Center, 701 E. Pratt St. The IMET is opening its doors to the public. The event will feature an array of fun STEM activities, including examining the harbor’s life under a microscope, meeting marine biologists, taking a behind-the-scenes tour of IMET’s Aquaculture Research Center, talking with graduate students about being a scientist, and more.
Star Wars Sleepover, Saturday, May 4, 5:30 p.m. to Sunday, May 5, 9 a.m. (overnight), Maryland Science Center. May the Fourth be with you, younglings! Enjoy a Star Wars-themed evening at the science center, including Star Wars-themed science activity stations, a planetarium show, and more. There will also be a separate event before the sleepover: a Jedi Academy from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 4.
Melodic Intersect Trio, Saturday, May 4, 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., An Die Musik. Musicians Hidayat Hussain Khan, Greg Hatza, and Enayet Hossain blend jazz, Indian classical, folk, rock, and hip-hop music using the sitar, tabla, and other instruments.
Out of the Ashes, Sunday, May 5, 9:30 a.m., Replica Gaslight (300 E. Baltimore St.). As part of Baltimore Heritage’s Monumental City walking tours, learn about The Great Baltimore Fire of 1904, and how the community rose out of the ashes to rebuild.
