A song written by Baltimore youth struggling to understand the tensions that exploded after the death of Freddie Gray will get its television debut today on The Meredith Vieira Show.
“Believe in Baltimore” was originally released as a free download in July. It features lyrics and melodies by students from the Believe in Music program and arrangement and accompaniment from members of Baltimore groups Outer Spaces, Future Islands, and Lower Dens.
Promotional copy for the episode is referring to “Believe in Baltimore” as “the kids song that changed a city.” That’s probably a little wishful thinking, but it certainly is a poignant piece of music.
The episode airs on NBC Oct. 21 at 11 a.m.
