
Maryland’s coronavirus-related hospitalizations dropped below 300 this week for the first time since the end of July 2021, state data show.
There are 254 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Maryland, down from 349 a week ago.
Maryland health officials have confirmed a total of 1,006,062 positive coronavirus cases to date as of Friday. Of those, the state has newly reported 2,154 cases since last Friday.
The seven-day average percentage of coronavirus tests that come back positive declined to 1.58% on Friday. A week ago, the average sat at 1.9%.
Maryland has administered a total of 11,420,810 coronavirus vaccine doses to date, including 2,198,566 booster shots.
Since last Friday, state officials have newly reported administering 29,451 vaccine doses, including 15,427 booster shots.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have changed how they track community transmission of coronavirus. Transmission levels are now based on new cases, hospital admissions and hospital capacity.
Under that change, all but two Maryland jurisdictions are experiencing low levels of community transmission of coronavirus, according to the CDC.
The CDC reported that Allegany and Garrett counties are the only Maryland counties experiencing moderate transmission levels.
Baltimore City Hall and other city government buildings will reopen to the public April 4 after being closed for two years due to the pandemic, Mayor Brandon Scott announced on Thursday, citing the city’s improving COVID-19 health metrics.
