A total of 3,895,792 Marylanders age 12 or older have received either a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine or both doses of a two-dose vaccine as of Friday morning, state health officials reported.

With that, 64.439% of Maryland’s eligible population are considered “fully vaccinated.”

Gov. Larry Hogan on Thursday encouraged Maryland residents to get booster shots if they are able, although eligibility varies based on the type of vaccine an individual received.

For the Pfizer vaccine, people must be age 65 or older, have an underlying condition, or work in a high-risk setting to qualify for a booster shot. They must wait until at least six months after their second dose to receive a booster shot.

Individuals who got the Moderna vaccine can currently only get a booster shot if they are immunocompromised.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine has not yet been approved for booster shots.

Maryland has confirmed a total of 533,870 positive COVID-19 cases to date, while 4,200,231 residents have tested negative for coronavirus.

State health officials have confirmed the coronavirus-related deaths of 10,229 Marylanders to date. There are also 231 residents whose deaths are suspected to be related to the virus.

Since last Friday, Maryland has confirmed 8,747 new cases of coronavirus and 95 new deaths related to COVID-19.

The seven-day average rate of positive tests currently sits at 4.09%.

There are currently 776 Marylanders hospitalized due to COVID-19, including 568 in acute care and 208 in intensive care.

This time last week, there were 772 Marylanders hospitalized with COVID-19.

All but two of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions are currently experiencing high levels of coronavirus transmission as of Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported.

Howard and Montgomery counties are experiencing substantial COVID-19 transmission.
