Work began on Wednesday to demolish the former 256,033 sq. ft. The Baltimore Sun building at the Baltimore Peninsula development. The former printing presses and offices located in the interior of the building were taken apart in recent months in preparation for demolition.
Sagamore Ventures, which is part of the Baltimore Peninsula Development team, purchased The Baltimore Sunโs 60-acre Sun Park in 2014. Some of the acquired land was used for the nearly-completed Chapter 1B of the Baltimore Peninsula development.
After considering temporary uses for the building, the development team ultimately decided to demolish the building.
The Baltimore Sun vacated the building at the end of 2022. It was the home of the newspaperโs printing press since 1988, and it became the newspaperโs headquarters in 2018. The Baltimore Sun planned to develop the 60-acre property with office buildings after constructing the printing press in the 1980s, but those plans never moved forward.
