Homebrewing can be a fun way to experiment with different types of beer, and it will yield bottles and bottles of suds. But it can take a lot of time, and if the new flavor profile ends up being a bust, well, you’re stuck with it. With the 4th Annual Hopped Homebrew Competition, hosted by Blue Pit BBQ & Whiskey Bar and Nepenthe Homebrew, 20 local homebrewers have done all the work and waited all that time for you. All you have to do is drink. And judge.

There is a bit of a catch. Contestants had to make their beer incorporating these ingredients:¬†cake mix, canned fruit, wine coolers and sandwich crackers. So it’s quite possible some of these will be pretty funky. Undoubtedly, many will be really good. And you’ll get to crown the winner.

Noon-4 p.m., Blue pit BBQ & Whiskey Bar, 1601 Union Ave., nepenthehomebrew.com, $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
