The early years of childhood move quickly—one day your little one is taking their first steps, and the next they are busy discovering the world with wide eyes and eager hands. These tender years call for slowing down, creating space, and savoring the small, meaningful moments.
At the Waldorf School of Baltimore, the Parent & Child classes invite families with babies and toddlers to do just that. Within the warmth of a homelike classroom, parents and children join together in a morning that echoes the rhythms of a Waldorf early childhood day. The gentle flow might include baking bread, stirring soup, gathering for morning circle, or exploring free play both indoors and outside in the fresh air.
For children, the experience is joyful and grounding—rolling dough, painting with watercolors, stacking blocks, or discovering the garden with friends their own age. For parents, the classes offer not only time with their child but also the gift of community. Sitting side by side with other families in the same stage of life, parents find comfort in shared stories and encouragement in a slower, more intentional approach to raising young children.
Here, toys are made of wood and wool, not plastic and batteries. Stories and songs come alive without screens, media characters, or buzzwords. The pace is unhurried, inviting both parents and children to notice and delight in the beauty of the season.
These classes are more than an activity—they are a window into Waldorf early childhood education, where play is understood as the real work of childhood, and where the seeds of imagination, focus, and resilience are gently nurtured.
