When the pandemic shuttered Baltimore’s theaters, galleries, and music venues, it cut off the income of the city’s artistic community.

Individual artists who have been directly impacted by COVID-19 can now apply to receive financial help through the Baltimore City Artist Recovery Grant Award (ARG).

The grants will be administered by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, also called BOPA.

In November, BOPA received half a million dollars in American Rescue Plan Act funding to support local artists and creators, both in project funding and direct grants.

Baltimore City approved a grant of $500,000 in ARPA funds for the artist recovery grant to provide direct economic relief for artists.

The artist recovery grant is open to artists of any discipline who reside in the city.

The city’s arts council collaborated with a group of Baltimore-based artists – Jeffrey Kent, Brion Gill, Jessica Keys, and Reed Baltimore – to create the hardship criteria for the grant.

Grantees who meet the application criteria may receive a one-time award of $3,500.

Grant applications open Jan. 31 and will close on March 18.

BOPA will hold an info session on Feb. 7 at 6:00 p.m.
