Baltimore’s most iconic winter feature, the salt box, is getting its own magazine.

The first volume of “Saltbox Concern: The Journal of the Baltimore Saltbox,” by Robert “Saltbox Bob” Atkinson with contributions by local saltbox artist Juliet Ames, will be released at a launch party held by Hampden’s Atomic Books on April 1.

The first issue includes a brief history of the saltbox phenomenon, a look at the Department of Public Works’ saltbox efforts, a map of Hampden’s art saltboxes, and plenty of images.

At the launch party, Atomic Books will premiere a short documentary on saltboxes and the author will share more about the phenomenon.
