The winter holiday decorations might still be hanging, but for many families, planning for summer begins now. Fortunately, registration for the Howard County Arts Councilโ€™s Summer Art Camps has opened.

The Arts Councilโ€™s location at Capitoline Center may be new, but their Summer Art Camps programs are as creative and welcoming as before. Camps are open to the public regardless of residency in Howard County for students entering grades Kโ€“7. To be eligible, campers must be at least 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2026.

There are a wide range of visual and performing arts camps from which to choose. In Little Worlds, students can create mini dioramas, in The Stuffie Laboratory they can sew their own stuffed animals, and in Comic Art and Cartooning, they can create an entirely new universe in their very own original comic book.

Grouped by age, campers may enroll in full- or half-day week-long sessions. Before-care is available starting at 8 a.m. and after-care is available until 6 p.m.

Each camp concludes with an exhibit or performance showing the campersโ€™ creations and accomplishments on the last day of the session. Arts Council camp employees are experienced teachers, each of whom is supported by one to three camp counselors and/or volunteers.

Summer camps begin June 22 and run through Aug. 21, 2026. Families can register their campers online or by phone at 410-313-2787. Early registration is encouraged, as space fills quickly.

The Howard County Arts Council moved to the Capitoline Center in the former circuit courthouse in Historic Ellicott City in December 2025. All Summer Art Camp sessions will take place at the new facility, located at 8360 Court Ave., which is just 10 minutes from the former Center for the Arts.
