The shortest day of the year sounds like a time to gather around the fire. Thanks to the friends of Druid Hill Park, there’s a chance to do it with the community.

The park’s annual Winter Solstice Celebration is set for Wednesday, Dec. 21, and it doesn’t fear the darkness. Instead of harping on the fact that there is limited sunlight that day, the event organizers are set to light a fire and invite participants to think about the new year.

Gathering at the Green Man Sculpture along the park’s reservoir, the 7-10 p.m. event features meditation by the solstice fire and free hay rides. A fire dancer is also slated to make an appearance courtesy Pyrophilia.

Refreshments are also included with $5 donation.
