If the warm(er) weather is putting a spring in your step, consider marking the seasons’ change with any of the entertaining events happening throughout April.

From festivals centered on kite-flying and Irish music, to Easter and Earth Day celebrations, there’s something for everyone.

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, ongoing through Sunday, April 19, Everyman Theatre. Siblings Vanya and Sonia are visited by their movie-star sister Masha โ€” who funds their life on their familyโ€™s rural Pennsylvanian homestead โ€“ with her boyfriend Spike in tow. Inspired by the works of Anton Chekhov, this play by satirist Christopher Durang brings hilarity to family tensions.

Mary Ellen Mark: Ward 81, ongoing through May 22, Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery at UMBC. Featuring photographs, newly uncovered audio recordings, and rare archival materials, this exhibition offers an intimate view of an all-female, high-security psychiatric unit.

Wizard of Oz, ongoing through Sunday, June 7, Tobyโ€™s Dinner Theater. All eyes have been on Oz lately after the release of the acclaimed โ€œWickedโ€ and โ€œWicked: For Goodโ€ movies, adapted for the screen from the stage musical (which itself was adapted from the book by Gregory Maguire). But Tobyโ€™s Dinner Theater is revisiting L. Frank Baumโ€™s beloved story that audiences grew up with. Dorothy and her little dog Toto find themselves swept away by a twister that transports them from their Kansas family farm to the magical and colorful Land of Oz. They travel with new friends along the yellow brick road on a quest to the Emerald City, where they hope the famed Wizard can grant them what they desire most. But first they must contend with a wicked witch and her flying monkeys who stand in their way.

Medieval Mindscapes, ongoing through August 23, Walters Art Museum. Featuring 22 works curated from the Waltersโ€™ collection of rare books and manuscripts, this exhibition showcases illustrated prayer books from the Middle Ages. Read more in this Baltimore Fishbowl article.

Fratino and Matisse: To See This Light Again, ongoing through September 6, Baltimore Museum of Art. Displaying their works side by side, this exhibition juxtaposes figure studies, interiors, and still-lifes by Louis Fratino and Henri Matisse.

Nature Deficit Disorder, Wednesday, April 1 through Sunday, May 31, Baltimore Museum of Art. Rachel Lee Hovnanianโ€™s immersive installation invites visitors to step into a simulated forest and reconnect with the natural world. Read more in this Baltimore Fishbowl article.

Seven Stars Between Two Skies, Wednesday, April 1 through June 2026, Lord Baltimore Hotel. Lord Baltimore Hotel’s Good Taste art exhibition will feature a new body of work by Baltimore-born visual artist Mark Anthony West Jr. Read more in this Baltimore Fishbowl article.

Circle Jerks & Gorilla Biscuits, Wednesday, April 1, doors at 6 p.m., show at 7 p.m., Baltimore Soundstage. Touring for the first time in over a decade, Circle Jerks will make a stop in Baltimore with Gorilla Biscuits and Negative Approach.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Thursday, April 2 through Sunday, April 12, Proscenium Theatre at UMBC. UMBC Theatre presents The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, adapted by Jacqueline E. Lawton and directed by Joseph W. Ritsch.

Spring Break Scavenger Hunts, Thursday, April 2, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., B&O Railroad Museum. Young explorers can enjoy three exciting scavenger hunts: the Bank of America Model Train Gallery Scavenger Hunt, Maryland History Scavenger Hunt, and the Underground Railroad Scavenger Hunt.  

Nature by the Fire: Bugs and Bonfires, Friday, April 3, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Irvine Nature Center. Warm up by the campfire and join Naturalist, Ash, for a family-friendly way to enjoy the outdoors. Roast marshmallows, meet one of Irvineโ€™s animal ambassadors, and dive into hands-on nature-themed fun.

BRB (Baltimore Record Bazaar) Vinyl Nite, Friday, April 3, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Peabody Heights Brewery. Free and family friendly, 1st Fridays in the Taproom features craft beer, a concession stand, Dugout Arcade, and DJ Mikie Love & Friends spinning and selling vinyl.

Music for Good Friday, Friday, April 3, 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., St. David’s Church. Join the Choir of St. Davidโ€™s for a program of choral and organ music, featuring Gabriel Faurรฉโ€™s Requiem in D minor.

Elizabeth Hazen Book Launch, Saturday, April 4, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., The Ivy Bookshop. Mary Jo Salter and Courtney LeBlanc will join Elizabeth Hazen for a conversation about her new poetry collection, The Sky Will Hold.

Easter Extravaganza at the B&O Railroad Museum, Saturday and Sunday, April 4 and April 5, B&O Railroad Museum. Thisโ€œEgg-stra Specialโ€ weekend is filled with family-oriented activities, including Breakfast with the Easter Bunny, two egg hunts across the historic campus, and a train ride with our floppy eared guest of honor. Sunday morning’s Easter Egg Hunt is sensory-friendly, designed with neurodivergent guests in mind.

The Heidi Chronicles, Friday, April 10, through Sunday, May 3, Vagabond Players. From the 1960s through the 1980s, this play chronicles feminist art historian Heidi Hollandโ€™s journey through the womenโ€™s movement, career ambition, and more. The work remains relevant for a society still navigating gender roles, work-life balance, and other challenges.

Baltimore Irish Trad Fest, Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11, Creative Alliance. Enjoy two nights of Irish music concerts, featuring performances by Matt Molloy and John Carty on Friday, Seรกn Gavin and Caoimhรญn ร“ Fearghail on Saturday, and other music makers throughout the festival.

CityLit Festival, Saturday, April 11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Maryland Center for History and Culture. This yearโ€™s theme is Bearing Witness: Literature as a Revolutionary Act, and the day will feature author readings, book signings, panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and a Literary Marketplace with books available for purchase. Peppa Pig: My First Concert, Monday, April 13, 6 p.m., Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Part of the Family Collection, Live at the Meyerhoff Series, Peppa Pig, Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig, George, and new baby sister, Evie, will be making a stop in Baltimore.

Holes, Thursday, April 16, through Sunday, May 10, Baltimore Center Stage. You read the novel by Louis Sachar. You watched the Disney movie starring Shia LaBeouf. Now, see Stanley Yelnats and the rest of the characters of Camp Green Lake come to life on stage in Baltimore Center Stageโ€™s production of โ€œHoles.โ€ Mystery, adventure, friendship, and justice are at the center of this story that the whole family will love.

Appalachian Spring and Beethoven 6 with Alsop (EARTH | Songs), Thursday, April 16 through Sunday, April 19, Music Center at Strathmore and Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Music Director Laureate Marin Alsop will return to the concert hall with Copland’s Suite from Appalachian Spring, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, “Pastoral,” and the East Coast Premiere of Australian composer Brett Dean’s Fire Music.

St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore’s 20th Annual Empty Bowls Candlelight & Clay Event, Friday, April 17, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Maryland State Fairgrounds. Tchaikovsky 5 & the Bruch Violin Concerto, Friday, April 24 through Sunday, April 26, Music Center at Strathmore and Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Part of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Classical Collection, this program will feature Baltimore native Jonathan Leshnoffโ€™s Starburst and Tchaikovskyโ€™s Symphony No. 5. Internationally acclaimed violinist Benjamin Beilman will join Music Director Jonathon Heyward for Bruchโ€™s Violin Concerto No. 1.

Kids’ Night Out: Neat Nocturnal Neighbors, Friday, April 24, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Irvine Nature Center. This drop-off event for ages 6-12 gives kids the chance to enjoy a unique night in nature while parents get a well-deserved moment to relax and recharge.

Gasolina Reggaeton Party, Friday, April 24, 9 p.m., Power Plant Live! ยฟTe gusta la gasolina? Party all night long at this celebration of reggaeton, dembow and Latin music, from Daddy Yankee to Bad Bunny and more.

Miss Holmes Returns, Friday, April 24, through Sunday, May 17, Fells Point Corner Theatre. Miss Holmes is back in this sequel with original cast members Sharon Maguire and Emma Grace Dunbar as Miss Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Dorothy Watson, respectively. A reinvention of Sir Arthur Conan Doyleโ€™s Victorian tales, the play finds Holmes and Watson helping a nurse and activist who is wanted for murder and on the run.

Baltimore Tattoo Arts Festival, Friday, April 24, through Sunday, April 26, Baltimore Convention Center. Enjoy tattoos, piercings, art and entertainment at Villain Arts’ 18th annual Baltimore Tattoo Arts Festival. The three-day event will feature contortionists, suspension performances, tattoo contests and more.

Autism Acceptance Day, Saturday, April 25, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Maryland Zoo. The Maryland Zoo will celebrate Autism Acceptance Month in partnership with Itineris. The event will feature sensory bags (including noise-reducing headphones, fidget toys, and non-verbal cue cards) available to rent for free; story time featuring works by neurodiverse authors; a scavenger hunt; and more.

Mayor’s Annual Spring Cleanup and Day of Service, Saturday, April 25, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., various neighborhoods. Mayor Brandon M. Scott, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW), the Baltimore City Department of Transportation (DOT), and the Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs invite residents to be part of this citywide effort to beautify Baltimore’s neighborhoods. Kimberly Akimbo, Tuesday, April 28 through Sunday, May 3, Hippodrome Theatre. Teenage girl Kimberly Levaco suffers from a condition that rapidly accelerates the aging process, making her appear as an old woman while still in high school. This 2023 Tony-winner for Best Musical tells a story that is equally humorous and poignant.

Since first tongue-popping onto television screens during “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” drag queen Alyssa Edwards continues to make a name for herself. The Texan is taking her Thanks For Everything Tour to Baltimore, with special guests Sapphire Dupree and DJ Cake Pop.
