
Maryland health officials confirmed more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases for the second time in less than one week, with 1,113 cases newly reported on Thursday.
The state last recorded more than 1,000 new daily cases on March 13 with 1,101 cases. Before that, daily case numbers had remained below 1,000 since mid-February.
The average percentage of Marylanders who have tested positive for COVID-19 over the past seven-day period has risen above 4% after remaining below that mark for 26 consecutive days, state data showed on Thursday.
The average has been slowly on the rise for about two weeks.
The seven-day average rate of positive tests yesterday was 4.27% for Marylanders younger than 35 and 3.95% for Marylanders older than 35.
At least 396,746 Marylanders have tested positive for COVID-19, while 3,097,545 have tested negative as of Thursday morning, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.
Maryland has completed 8,394,319 coronavirus tests to date, with 32,867 test results reported in the past 24 hours.
Of the state’s total number of confirmed cases, 36,489 people who tested positive for COVID-19 were hospitalized at some point, including 798 who are currently hospitalized.
Of those currently hospitalized, 575 are in acute care and 223 are in intensive care.
The number of acute care patients declined by four while the number of intensive care patients declined by three, marking a net decrease of seven fewer people hospitalized with coronavirus compared to Wednesday.
A total of 7,929 Marylanders have died from COVID-19, with 14 additional deaths reported since Wednesday. There are also 184 deaths suspected to be related to coronavirus.
Maryland has now administered more than 2 million coronavirus vaccine doses as of Thursday.
A total of 740,887 Marylanders have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Of the two-dose vaccines, Maryland has administered a total of 1,296,808 first doses and 688,379 second doses.
In the past 24 hours, providers have administered 29,482 first doses and 15,457 second doses.
Maryland providers have also administered single-dose vaccines to a total of 52,508 people, including 220 doses that were administered in the past 24 hours.
As of 10 a.m. Thursday, there have been 75,847 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 65,157 in Montgomery County; 53,282 in Baltimore County; 42,230 in Baltimore City; 37,295 in Anne Arundel County; 17,593 in Frederick County; 16,621 in Howard County; 13,187 in Harford County; 12,782 in Washington County; 9,357 in Charles County; 7,895 in Carroll County; 6,936 in Wicomico County; 6,454 in Allegany County; 5,291 in St. Mary’s County; 5,164 in Cecil County; 3,783 in Calvert County; 3,308 in Worcester County; 2,636 in Queen Anne’s County; 2,433 in Somerset County; 2,413 in Dorchester County; 2,073 in Caroline County; 1,923 in Talbot County; 1,875 in Garrett County; and 1,211 in Kent County, according to the dashboard.
Of Maryland’s confirmed cases, 20,104 are people age 9 or younger; 38,561 are people ages 10-19; 72,213 are people ages 20-29; 68,027 are people ages 30-39; 59,934 are people ages 40-49; 59,760 are people ages 50-59; 40,413 are people ages 60-69; 22,798 are people ages 70-79; and 14,936 are people age 80 or older.
Maryland has identified 207,306 of the confirmed COVID-19 patients as female and 189,440 as male.
Of the Marylanders who have tested positive for COVID-19, 115,508 are Black, 63,273 are Hispanic, 138,445 are white, 9,265 are Asian, 18,787 are another race, and data is not available for the remaining 51,468.
Nationwide, there have been at least 29,608,410 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, including at least 538,096 deaths. The U.S. has conducted more than 376.5 million coronavirus tests to date as of 10 a.m. Thursday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
