
Maryland surpassed 65,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, with state officials reporting at least 65,007 positive cases as of Tuesday morning. At least 418,528 tests have come back negative.
The state has reported 10,360 COVID-19 test results in the past 24 hours, totaling 583,091 tests since the pandemic began, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.
The seven-day rate of positive tests reached 5.06 percent, increasing marginally from Monday’s average of 5.03 percent.
Before today, the average rate of positive tests had decreased or flattened for 12 consecutive days since reaching 7.25 percent on June 10. The measurement has followed a downward trend since peaking at 26.92 percent on April 17.
Of Maryland’s confirmed coronavirus cases, 10,611 people were hospitalized at some point, including 561 who are currently hospitalized.
Maryland has seen a 27-day decline in the number of coronavirus-related hospitalizations since reaching 1,338 on May 27. The number of patients has generally decreased for about seven weeks.
Of the Marylanders who are currently hospitalized for COVID-19, 349 are in acute care and 212 are in intensive care.
An additional 18 people have died from coronavirus since Monday, bringing the total number of fatal cases to 2,963. The state also suspects 129 deaths are related to coronavirus, but has not confirmed the virus as a contributing factor in those cases.
As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, there have been 17,935 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 14,141 in Montgomery County; 7,585 in Baltimore County; 7,095 in Baltimore City; 4,916 in Anne Arundel County; 2,436 in Howard County; 2,407 in Frederick County; 1,328 in Charles County; 1,060 in Harford County; 1,046 in Wicomico County; 1,031 in Carroll County; 611 in Washington County; 599 in St. Mary’s County; 461 in Cecil County; 397 in Calvert County; 294 in Caroline County; 274 in Worcester County; 211 in Queen Anne’s County; 194 in Kent County; 189 in Allegany County; 183 in Dorchester County; 117 in Talbot County; 83 in Somerset County; and 10 in Garrett County, according to the dashboard.
There have been 1,907 confirmed cases in people age 9 or younger; 3,248 in people ages 10-19; 9,459 in people ages 20-29; 12,128 in people ages 30-39; 11,591 in people ages 40-49; 10,265 in people ages 50-59; 7,338 in people ages 60-69; 4,678 in people ages 70-79; and 4,393 in people age 80 or older.
Of the Marylanders who have tested positive for coronavirus, 33,769 have been identified as female and 31,238 as male.
Of Maryland’s confirmed COVID-19 cases, 18,753 have been Black, 17,670 have been Hispanic, 12,747 have been white, 1,275 have been Asian, 3,259 have been another race, and data is not available for the remaining 11,303.
In the United States, there have been at least 2,312,302 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including at least 120,402 people who have died from the virus and 640,198 who have recovered. The country has tested more than 27.5 million people for COVID-19 as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
