
The number of Marylanders currently hospitalized with coronavirus decreased to 1,616 on Friday, state data show.
Other than a slight increase on Wednesday, Maryland’s COVID-19 hospitalizations have been trending downward since Jan. 19.
Despite the recent declines, however, there are still more people hospitalized with coronavirus than the daily hospitalizations that the state saw from early May through early December.
Of those currently hospitalized, 1,249 are in acute care and 367 are in intensive care.
The number of acute care patients declined by 11 while the number of intensive care patients declined by nine, marking a net decrease of 20 fewer people hospitalized with coronavirus compared to Thursday.
Since the pandemic began, Maryland has hospitalized a total of 31,759 people with COVID-19.
The state is nearing 7,000 deaths as it added 39 more coronavirus-related fatalities, totaling 6,900 Marylanders who are confirmed to have died from the virus as of Friday. There are also 176 deaths suspected to be related to coronavirus.
At least 350,629 Marylanders have tested positive for COVID-19, while 2,811,179 have tested negative as of Friday morning, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.
The state’s coronavirus caseload grew by 1,880, an increase of about 0.54%.
Maryland has completed 6,918,308 coronavirus tests to date, with 52,790 test results reported in the past 24 hours.
Over the last seven days, an average of 5.94% of the state’s COVID-19 tests have come back positive.
The seven-day average rate of positive tests yesterday was 5.8% for Marylanders younger than 35 and 6.05% for Marylanders older than 35.
So far, a total of 483,149 coronavirus vaccine doses have been administered to Marylanders.
The state has given the first dose of the vaccine to a total of 406,168 Marylanders, including 22,868 who received it in the past 24 hours.
Of the Maryland recipients of the first vaccine dose, 76,981 individuals have received the second vaccine dose, including 10,365 people in the past 24 hours.
As of 10 a.m. Friday, there have been 67,262 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 58,308 in Montgomery County; 46,843 in Baltimore County; 37,625 in Baltimore City; 32,535 in Anne Arundel County; 15,447 in Frederick County; 14,408 in Howard County; 11,307 in Washington County; 11,186 in Harford County; 7,909 in Charles County; 6,861 in Carroll County; 6,232 in Wicomico County; 6,143 in Allegany County; 4,709 in Cecil County; 4,517 in St. Mary’s County; 3,373 in Calvert County; 3,037 in Worcester County; 2,338 in Queen Anne’s County; 2,228 in Somerset County; 2,040 in Dorchester County; 1,859 in Caroline County; 1,789 in Garrett County; 1,646 in Talbot County; and 1,027 in Kent County, according to the dashboard.
Of the Marylanders who have tested positive for COVID-19, 17,006 are people age 9 or younger; 32,913 are people ages 10-19; 63,847 are people ages 20-29; 60,746 are people ages 30-39; 53,634 are people ages 40-49; 52,974 are people ages 50-59; 35,690 are people ages 60-69; 20,271 are people ages 70-79; and 13,548 are people age 80 or older.
The state has identified 183,872 of the confirmed COVID-19 patients as female and 166,757 as male.
Of Maryland’s confirmed cases, 99,405 are Black, 57,531 are Hispanic, 119,649 are white, 7,670 are Asian, 16,418 are another race, and data is not available for the remaining 49,956.
Nationwide, there have been at least 25,769,183 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, including at least 433,223 deaths. The U.S. has conducted more than 299 million coronavirus tests to date as of 10 a.m. Friday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
