The developers in charge of revamping McKeldin Plaza have been talking about demolishing the brutalist McKeldin Fountain for a year now. And now they’ve got the funding approved by the Baltimore Board of Estimates and a target schedule for the project. Dowtown Partnership has “every intention of beginning demolition in the third quarter of 2015,” according to the Baltimore Business Journal.
Within six to nine months of groundbreaking, the triangular plaza at the corner of Pratt and Light streets will be made into a park.
If you’re the ice-skating type, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to bid your fond farewells to the brazenly inelegant fountain this winter. An ice rink will be installed at the plaza in November.
