The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is offering fun and free transportation aboard its Holiday Bus for the 46th year, bringing riders to the Mondawmin Train Garden for free.

The Holiday Bus will operate on weekdays until Friday, Dec. 20. The Train Garden is there for visitorsโ€™ delight at Mondawmin Metro Subway Station until Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

โ€œOur Holiday Bus and Train Garden are returning again as part of the many cherished holiday traditions in the Baltimore region,โ€ said Holly Arnold, Maryland Transit Administrator. โ€œFree rides on the Holiday Bus and the Mondawmin Train Garden are a small way of saying thank you to our riders during the holiday season.โ€

The free Holiday Bus will operate on different CityLink and LocalLink bus routes on weekdays until the Friday before Christmas. All passengers will receive a free candy cane and enjoy a holiday music-filled bus ride to their destination. In addition to free rides for customers, the Holiday Bus will make an appearance at the 51st Mayorโ€™s Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m.

The schedule and location of the Holiday Bus changes daily, so customers can track it by looking for the sleigh icon on the Transit app. The Transit app is a third-party mobile phone app that uses GPS tracking to let passengers know the exact location of their vehicle and when it will arrive.

Riders can get in on the fun on social media, too, as they can follow clues on where the Holiday Bus will be located by following the Maryland Transit Administration on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter/X.

The Train Garden is built by MTA employees and is situated on the Mezzanine Level of the Mondawmin Metro Subway Station. They have been creating this train garden for decades for Baltimore residents and visitors. The miniature, interactive attraction has a subway train that travels through a cityscape, neighborhoods, racetrack, fast-food restaurant and a fire station. Visitors can push buttons to make objects inside the train garden come to life.
