
One year ago today, Gov. Larry Hogan announced the first three confirmed cases of coronavirus in Maryland.
In the year since the pandemic hit Maryland, state officials have confirmed a total of 385,678 positive COVID-19 cases, including 913 cases that were newly reported Friday morning.
A total of 3,024,949 Marylanders have tested negative for the virus to date, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.
On March 19, 2020, state officials confirmed that the first Marylander had died from COVID-19. That same day, the state surpassed 100 confirmed coronavirus cases.
Since then, a total of 7,748 Marylanders have died from COVID-19, with eight deaths reported since Thursday. There are also 182 deaths suspected to be related to coronavirus.
Maryland has hospitalized a total of 35,378 COVID-19 patients during the pandemic.
Of the 849 Marylanders who are currently hospitalized due to coronavirus, 620 are in acute care and 229 are in intensive care.
The number of acute care patients fell by 20 while the number of intensive care patients rose by 13, marking a net decrease of seven fewer people hospitalized with coronavirus compared to Thursday.
Maryland has completed 8,024,078 coronavirus tests to date, with 41,726 test completed in the past 24 hours.
Over the last seven days, an average of 3.28% of the state’s COVID-19 tests have come back positive.
The seven-day average rate of positive tests yesterday was 3.6% for Marylanders younger than 35 and 3.08% for Marylanders older than 35.
Maryland began administering doses of the coronavirus vaccine in late December.
So far, the state’s providers have administered a total of 926,554 first doses of the vaccine, including 26,096 in the past 24 hours.
There are also 509,842 Marylanders who have received their second vaccine dose, including 15,575 people who received it in the past 24 hours.
Of the state’s approximately 6 million residents, about 15.3% have received at least their first dose and 8.4% have received both the first and second doses.
As of 10 a.m. Friday, there have been 73,834 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 63,702 in Montgomery County; 51,318 in Baltimore County; 40,608 in Baltimore City; 36,084 in Anne Arundel County; 17,095 in Frederick County; 15,893 in Howard County; 12,592 in Harford County; 12,465 in Washington County; 8,994 in Charles County; 7,574 in Carroll County; 6,797 in Wicomico County; 6,411 in Allegany County; 5,150 in St. Mary’s County; 5,041 in Cecil County; 3,673 in Calvert County; 3,276 in Worcester County; 2,585 in Queen Anne’s County; 2,397 in Somerset County; 2,355 in Dorchester County; 2,051 in Caroline County; 1,897 in Talbot County; 1,844 in Garrett County; and 1,129 in Kent County, according to the dashboard.
Of the Marylanders who have tested positive for COVID-19, 111,453 are Black, 62,085 are Hispanic, 134,030 are white, 8,792 are Asian, 18,173 are another race, and data is not available for the remaining 51,145.
Maryland has confirmed 19,283 cases in people age 9 or younger; 37,126 in people ages 10-19; 70,120 in people ages 20-29; 66,217 in people ages 30-39; 58,371 in people ages 40-49; 58,145 in people ages 50-59; 39,341 in people ages 60-69; 22,338 in people ages 70-79; and 14,737 in people age 80 or older.
The state has identified 201,731 of the confirmed COVID-19 patients as female and 183,947 as male.
Nationwide, there have been at least 28,828,292 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, including at least 520,387 deaths. The U.S. has conducted more than 355.5 million coronavirus tests to date as of 10 a.m. Friday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
