As part of the Claire Marie Foundation and with the support of Iconic Adventures, Claireโs father, Rocky Wagonhurst, is embarking on a solo 550 mile bicycling trip to take Claire to college. His journey will take him from Charleston, where Claire dreamed of starting an interior design business, onto the two college campuses where Claire had gained acceptance prior to her passing: Georgia Southern and the University of Alabama. Rocky will stop off at Georgia Southern for the Eagleโs football game against Western Michigan on September 12th before continuing onto The University of Alabama for the game against Oleโ Miss on September 19th where he will keep a long-standing date with Claire. It will just be Claire and her dad on the road, spending time together, on the way to what would have been her future. โAlthough I have run a number of marathons over the years, I have never cycled this distance. After years of watching Claire push herself athletically, mentally and emotionally to overcome surgeries and drug treatments to stay competitive in lacrosse, cross country and aerobic competitions, I knew I needed to challenge myself as she always did. Cycling this route is a way I can honor my daughter, her amazing spirit and undaunted belief that we should embrace every moment.โ With the support of Iconic Adventures and the Baltimore Ravens , Rocky is encouraged that his ride will raise awareness of adolescent melanoma through the Claire Marie Foundation. For more information about adolescent melanoma and how you can sponsor the โRiding With Claireโ event by contacting Marianne Banister at: marianne@clairemariefoundation.org or by calling 410-274-7938.
