The City That E-Reads

The Enoch Pratt just earned a new distinction for Baltimore: the city is now the largest urban area in the United States to lend out e-readers at its public library. The pilot program, which began yesterday, is currently being tested at the Waverly and Reisterstown branches.

According to The Sun, library patrons may borrow a Barnes & Noble nook that comes loaded with 22 e-books, including classics and modern bestsellers. The titles automatically become unavailable to read when the loan runs out. Then the nook is returned. And take care of that device. Fees for repairing or replacing a nook run from $8 to $139.

The number of e-readers is limited and there is already a waiting list to borrow one. If you’ve got your own nook or kindle, you can still borrow e-books at any of the library’s branches.
