Our top story this week offered some great press for the Baltimore Police Department, which has a very caring and dedicated member in Officer Pierre Dolcine.

Baltimoreans Dawson and Jennifer Nolley reached out to Baltimore Fishbowl writer Ed Gunts to share their touching tale involving Officer Dolcine. It all began with a nasty car accident at Northern Parkway and Loch Raven Boulevard. As they tell it, Jennifer and their two daughters, Elizabeth, 3, and Kathryn, nine months, were in a car at the intersection when their vehicle was sent airborne into a lamp post by another vehicle. Luckily, no one in the car was seriously hurt, but the girls still needed medical attention.

Here’s an excerpt from Dawson Nolley’s letter about what followed:

Office Dolcine was exactly what we needed and infinitely more than we could have hoped for. He was present, he was sincere, and he was genuinely concerned. He was helpful, not just to Jennifer and me, but to Elizabeth. Within seconds, he had her smiling and laughing. He made her comfortable with the EMT’s and the ambulance; he made her excited about a ride to the hospital.

Dolcine stuck around at the hospital, and even followed up with the family afterward. It made for a heartwarming account for a city scarred by tensions between police and residents. Click here to read the full letter.
