Baltimore Loses Another Bookstore

Salamander Books Baltimore closing

It’s a harsh world out there for bookstores, especially the quirky, independent kind. Still, somehow we thought that Salamander Books, the beloved Mt. Vernon purveyor of used books and home to friendly discussion groups, would be around forever. But the Kindle/Amazon/e-commerce world took its toll, and the bookstore will be closing its doors as soon as it sells off its inventory.

More Info on the New Owners at the Ivy Bookshop

Yesterday, Ivy Bookshop owner Darielle Linehan sent to her loyal customers an email about the sale we reported Friday afternoon.  In her letter, she gives these details about the new owners, Ann and Ed Berlin:

“The Berlins currently live in the New York area where Ann is a Vice President in the Higher Education Division at John Wiley Publishers, having worked in publishing  throughout her career. She holds an MBA from NYU.

Ed is a native of Baltimore, attended City College, UMBC and received his law degree from University of Maryland and most recently his masters degree in International Relations at NYU.  Ed has held senior management positions at Citibank, Deutsche Bank and Thomson Reuters.”

We look forward to meeting the new owners and wish them luck. They certainly have big shoes to fill!
