What: This newly renovated Canton townhouse is being sold by the builder with the option (not to say hope) for you to do even more. For a price, built-ins can be added. Wet-bars can be removed. An elevator can be installed in the space provided. Roof deck was approved, but not built. Part of the idea seems to be that you may want to rent out a floor or two, and make adjustments to the house accordingly. There is certainly room for that. The house is extra wide but not deep, with a central staircase (and elevator shaft) running right up the middle. On the main level, there’s a new kitchen to the left of the front door, with granite counters and stainless steel appliances. To the right, down a columned entrance with nice vistas, is a living room with fireplace. Upstairs, each floor has a similar layout, with a wet bar/mini-kitchen on the landing, and hallways to the left and right leading to good-size rooms at either end. The master suite is luxurious, with its two-sided glass fireplace and walk-in closet. All bathrooms are large and modern, with whirlpools and separate tiled showers. Other rooms are well and flexibly finished — they have closets and each could be a den, nursery or living room. There is the lingering feeling here that you are buying an unfinished house, but it does offer possibilities.
Where: Address is O’Donnell Street, but entrance is on S. East Avenue, around the corner and a couple blocks east of popular O’Donnell Square – home of Looney’s Pub, St. Casimir Church and tons of restaurants and bars in between. The Canton demographic is young, (median age 32.5) and single. That said, there’s a growing segment of married couples, many of whom are living here with young children. For them, it might be helpful to know that nearby St. Casimir has a K-8 Catholic School and Pre-School (for the fully toilet-trained). The water taxi stops in Canton, and three bus lines run through it. The large Safeway that services the neighborhood is about a mile from the house. Parking in Canton is at a premium, so the two-car garage is a plus.
