Political reporter Michael Dresser among first to take latest buyout offer at The Sun

Longtime Baltimore Sun¬†State House reporter Michael Dresser is among the first journalists at the city’s daily newspaper to go in the most recent round of buyouts from Tribune Publishing.

He announced his retirement in a Twitter post, and briefly acknowledged it at the end of a column sizing up his time covering Annapolis. A newsroom source confirmed Dresser accepted one of the company-wide buyouts being offered by the Chicago-based parent company.

Vigil for Capital Gazette planned for Saturday outside of Sun offices

Organizers with the volunteer activist group Solidarity Maryland are planning to hold a vigil outside The Sun‘s N. Calvert Street offices Saturday night to honor the five people killed and the two injured at the Capital Gazette offices yesterday.

Baltimore Sun Media Group owns both The Sun and Capital Gazette Communications.

The newsrooms in the Baltimore Sun Media Group are going through a company-wide reorganization that will integrate teams of reporters, photographers and social media personnel, according to a memo released today and obtained by the Baltimore Fishbowl.
