Charlie Bethel’s The Seven Poor Travellers at Theatre Project

Seven Poor

catch of the day fish (2)Don’t get us wrong– we love a good production of The Nutcracker or A Christmas Carol. They’re holiday season staples, of course. But sometimes it’s nice to mix it up– lest we only watch Miracle on 34th Street and It’s a Wonderful Life over and over and over again, right? Well, leave it the the Baltimore Theatre Project to push the envelope ever so gently with what could well become a new, local holiday staple: it’s Charlie Bethel’s one-man rendition of Charles Dickens’ The Seven Poor Travellers.

    Baltimore Fishbowl Weekend

Get Up & Go! The City Celebrates Day of the Dead and the World’s Greatest Female Barbershop Singers!

Whether you’re waking up this morning with a zombie-blood hangover, or you simply ate too much of your kids’ Halloween loot last night, you can still enjoy the rest of the weekend. We promise. Take it easy with an evening at the Theatre Project where you can still catch Cabaret Macabre tonight. This weekend also happens to mark the beginning of the Charm City Fringe Festival, which has a number of unusual theater offerings all week long.

If you’re looking to keep the party going, you can celebrate El Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead) at the Poe House on either Saturday or Sunday. Or leave the kids at home and treat yourself to the Cider and Mead Scavenger Hunt at Great Shoals Winery.

And finally, don’t miss the week’s big highlight: The 68th Annual Sweet Adelines International Convention and Competition, celebrating women barbershop singers from around the world. It’s on from November 3-8, with events (and gorgeous harmonies) galore.

The Campbell Dance Experience at Theatre Project

    Campbell Dance

catch of the day fish (2)Even for those of us who consider ourselves real culture vultures, I’m gonna bet that most of us just don’t see that much dance on the regular. We may go to plays, films, concerts and lectures, but for many, dance can be a little less on our radar. Even if we like to go out dancing, or take dance classes (Zumba, anyone?) when we think of watching dance performance, many times, our only point of reference is The Nutcracker. Luckily, you can change all that this Friday, with a special, one-night only performance at Theatre Project from The Campbell Dance Experience– some of the most remarkable contemporary dance that the city has to offer.

The Charm City Kitty Club’s House Warming Show

    Home Sweet Homo

catch of the day fish (2)We all love it when two good things get together. And in this case, those two things are The Charm City Kitty Club (you know, “Baltimore’s Premier Queer Variety Show”) and the Baltimore Theatre Project (Baltimore’s “Fringe Festival all year round”). We’re so glad that the Kitties have found a new home (and in a new neighborhood, too) and that the Theatre Project is continuing their tradition of presenting the kind of unique, off-beat, and rather avant work that gives our city its character. Which is why we’ll be first in line this weekend for the Kitty Club’s House Warming Show—complete with Kitty Cocktails in the lobby.
