First of all, have you heard that the City Paper is being bought out by the Baltimore Sun (which, by the way, is itself for sale)? Okay, great.
Well, the 37-year-old free alternative weekly is going to stay kinda sorta alternative, apparently. Baltimore Sun Media Group CEO Timothy E. Ryan said the City Paper will “remain independent from the group’s other outlets with a separate newsroom and sales team.” (But wait, that’s the story as reported in the… Baltimore Sun. Dun, dun, dun! Can it be trusted?!)
Despite Ryan’s assertion, some City Paper jobs are likely to be lost in the acquisition. Technically, all City Paper staff will lose their old jobs at the beginning of March. Some of them might not be hired by BSMG to continue on with the paper.
