Lent 2026 VOICES Series
Wednesday, March 11: Tamara Wellons, 7-8:30 p.m.
Music as a path to healing
Tamara Wellons is a soul artist and community leader who blends storytelling with advocacy. A former Miss Bowie State University and performer at Carnegie Hall, she explores Black rural heritage in her recent work, including the single and documentary Ode to Ivor. Wellons is a social-impact leader who leverages the arts to drive community wellness, education, and creator advocacy.
As founder of Her Dreams Productions, she leads the youth-focused YAMZ, a cultural enrichment program designed to bring high-quality music and arts education directly to schools and Creative Rx, which integrates arts into hospital wellness. She serves as a National Trustee for the Recording Academy, advocating for creators nationwide while fostering deep human connection through her music.
VOICES, the Redeemer Speaker Series, invites contemporary voices to challenge and inform us: they are artists and authors, visionaries and thought leaders, advocates of change courageous enough to hold the loveliness and sorrow of the world at once and find the wonder in both.
Please join us on Wednesday evenings in Lent for a simple brown bag supper at 6:00 p.m. in the parish hall. And at 7:00 p.m. we will gather in the church as we learn from a dynamic line up of speakers each inviting us to hear their stories and find more meaning in ours.
