As Baltimore welcomes the winter holiday season with the 54th annual lighting of the city’s Washington Monument, be aware of how the event will impact traffic around Mount Vernon.
The lighting will take place Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mount Vernon Place, where the monument is located.
The city will close certain streets, alert motorists to detours, and institute parking restrictions starting as early as Wednesday morning in some areas.
The following streets will be closed to traffic from 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, through 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4:
- West side of North Charles Street from East Centre to East Madison streets
- Both sides of West Mount Vernon Place from North Charles to Cathedral streets
On Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., these roadways will be shut down:
- East side of North Charles Street from East Centre to Read streets
- Madison Street from St. Paul to Cathedral streets
- Both sides of East Mount Vernon Place from St. Paul to North Charles streets
Baltimore City police and transportation enforcement officers will help direct traffic during the event.
Be especially vigilant of posted parking restrictions, as vehicles that violate those restrictions will be ticketed and towed.
The Charm City Circulator’s Purple Route will be detoured Thursday, which may cause longer than normal wait times. City officials are encouraging riders to download the Passio Go! app for up-to-date information about bus service.
