Charm City Books welcomes bestselling author Linda Åkeson McGurk to Baltimore for a conversation inspired by her book There’s No Such Thing as Bad Weather.

Drawing from her Scandinavian upbringing, McGurk introduces friluftsliv, the philosophy of open-air living rooted in the belief that time outdoors is essential for well-being, in every season and in all kinds of weather.

In conversation with Lida Lawrence, Forest Kindergarten teacher, the evening will explore how year-round outdoor play builds resilience, supports children’s mental health, and offers an alternative to the growing pressures of early academics and screen-centered childhoods. The discussion will also include practical insights, from embracing healthy risk to simply learning how to layer for winter.

For Baltimore families navigating gray skies, muddy parks, and increasingly indoor routines, the question feels timely: What might shift if we stopped waiting for perfect weather?

The event takes place Wednesday, February 25 from 6:00–7:30 p.m. at the Waldorf School of Baltimore. Admission is free and open to the public.
