Yikes. At Booker T. Washington Middle School, teachers discovered that some final grades they assigned to their students were altered after the fact from failing to passing. In more than one instance, a 50 percent (which is as low as theyโ€™re allowed to go) became a 90 percent (which is, you know, kind of high).

Who made the changes has not yet come to light, but according to WJZ-TV, only principals and other โ€œhigh-rankingโ€ school officials are capable of altering grades.

Following โ€œstandard practice,โ€ the school district is going to review data from other Baltimore public schools to discover whether the problem extends beyond Booker T. Washington.

  1. This happens/ed frequently in my wife’s time at a city neighborhood high school. No one ever says or reports anything because of the vindictive nature of the administration. Straight up grade changing from F’s to B’s without her approval so kids will pass and the graduation rate will improve… Grad rates are directly tied to the amount of funding a school will receive in the following year.
