Surprisingly, it was what Michael Phelps did out of the pool that got him trending on Twitter Tuesday morning.
South Africa’s Chad Le Clos decided to warm up for his 200 meter butterfly semifinals by dancing and shadow boxing right in front of where the greatest swimmer to ever live was just minding his own business trying to listen to his pump-up music.
Phelps repaid Le Clos with a stare-plus-jaw-clench so withering it instantly spawned the hashtag #PhelpsFace.

If you really watch the video with a critical eye, the apparent taunt and death stare look less and less intentional. They’ve both got their headphones in, and Le Clos is dancing “like nobody’s watching” in front of his own chair. (Phelps said as much in an interview.)
