Seven years ago, Julianna Margulies helped redefine what itโ€™s like to dress as a professional woman, acting as high-profile lawyer Alicia Florrick on the television show The Good Wife. Her uniquely feminine style strayed from the pantsuits and โ€œdress-like-a-manโ€ ethos that flourished in business at the time. Instead, she wore modest, form-fitting dresses, swirling cloaks, patterned suits, and heels that occasionally lifted her higher than the height of many of her male co-stars. Costume designer Dan Lawson used a variety of brands to dress the showโ€™s characters, but for Marguliesโ€™ character, he often favored a New York brand, Lafayette 148.

The brand, founded twenty years ago and run mostly by women, takes pride in exploring โ€œwhatโ€™s nextโ€ rather than what is on trend. To that extent, it is perfectly suited to be sold locally at Chezelle Boutique, in the Village of Cross Keys. The boutique (known and loved for carrying larger sizes in high fashion clothing) will unveil the latest Lafayette 148 collection on February 23, in a three-day trunk show.

The Lafayette 148 Spring 2017 collection features pieces inspired by Cuba in its heyday, offering an โ€œeffortless path to style with bold colors and Art Deco influences,โ€ according to the shopโ€™s promotion of the event.  As for Lawson, the Emmy-nominated costume designer who helped us notice the brand, he ended his seven-year run with The Good Wife believing so strongly in Lafayette 148 that he joined forces with them permanently as brand ambassador. See if you feel as strongly next week at the trunk show. Missy, petite, and plus sizes all welcome.
