The escape room craze is coming to downtown Baltimore.

A group called Baltimaze Escape Rooms is planning to open an escape room venue in April at 31 Light Street.

The operator is holding a Launch Party for the new venture at Alexanderโ€™s Tavern in Fells Point, 710 S. Broadway, on March 16 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Escape room venues are typically themed environments where visitors are locked in a small space and must use clues to escape within a certain time period.

According to its website, the new Light Street venue will have three escape rooms: โ€œThe Study,โ€ in which players have broken into the mansion of a reclusive billionaire and need to find out where he is hiding; โ€œEx Machina,โ€ a secret room filled with mechanical contraptions and a mysterious vault door that no one can open; and โ€œThe Gallery,โ€ an artistโ€™s studio where a famous artist and critic have gone missing.

Other such venues in the Baltimore area include the Lockโ€™Nโ€™Key Escape Room at 1118 Light Street in South Baltimore, Charm City Clue Room at 6 Market Place, Escape 45 at 800 N. Charles Street and Escape This Live at 2 Winters Lane in Catonsville.
